I’m very proud of the effort that you have put forth during the last three days of testing.  I expect you to continue focusing and trying to reach the goal of achievement.   Many of you have only three more days of testing while the rest have seven days of testing.   Do not get discourage and do your best!  Like I mentioned today in class, I’ve been watching America The Story of Us on the History Channel. If you’re interested in history please do watch.  I will also try to show pieces in class, specially those parts that connect to everything we have been learning all year long.  Have a pleasant evening!

Week 29, Thursday

Good evening class, I hope all of you are enjoying this cool evening.  Have you seen the Iceland volcano (Eyjafjallajocul Glacier)?  Wow, just like we read in Volcanoes early in the school year; the plume of ash has caused all flights in Europe to be cancelled (all planes must stay 120 nautical miles away from the eruption’s ash plume).  The volcano is actually under a glacier and it has created floods (you know heat melts ice) and people have been evacuated from dangerous flooded areas.  Talk about nature’s fury, volcano eruptions, earthquakes, tornadoes and snow storms have cause lost of life, property and a made us think what is happening to our planet.  Hopefully you’re seeing all this and understanding that it’s all related to nature’s fury.

I know that you might have had a difficult time explaining to your parents that there isn’t a homework packet assign for this week and to make things worst I didn’t post it yesterday.  So just to remind you and let your parents know, there is not regular homework this week.  What you will have is math and maybe social studies homework.  For instance,  tonight complete PW131 #9-11.

Spring Break, Last Day

Hope all of you have enjoyed your two weeks of Spring Break.  Tomorrow initiates the last stretch of our 2009-2010 school year.  We will go straight until June 16, we get a long Memorial Day Weekend of course.  None-the-less, it’s going to go quickly and we have so much learn, do and enjoy.  We have CST testing, our field trips including this Thursday to the opera, our TWP ceremony, and the student/staff softball game just to name a few.  Let’s do it boys and girls, we must take control of our learning and enjoy it.  I want to see growth i some form or shape from each one of you.  I hope you are willing to do your best this last trimester.  I’m watching Nature, Moment of Impact: Jungle Part 2, maybe some of you will watch it and write a brief summary for extra credit.

Spring Break, Sunday

earthquakeWow! Did you feel today’s earthquake?  I was having a lazy Sunday and watching TV when all of a sudden I began hearing the house creaking and then I felt the shaking.  For a second I thought it was going to stop but then I realized that it was a long one.  So I decided to go under the coffee table, which was kind of dumb of me because it’s a low to the ground table and as I tried to force myself under it I knew I wasn’t going to fit.  In trying to keep my cool, I’m afraid of earthquakes by the way, I said to myself I better get out of the house, which was a wiser  move in my part.  As I stood outside the house, all I could imagine was the house crumbling down with my car keys and my phone inside, which I had overseen and left in the house as I calmly RAN out.  The house continued to make noises, specially the garage door, as I stood there contemplating whether I should run in and get the keys and phone.  Where were you and how did you react to today’s earthquake?

For homework tonight do Wednesday/Day 3, read for more than 30 min. and Lesson 3 # pp. 111-114 in your Ciencias Sociales book.  Some of you had the opportunity  to do push-ups and realized it was not easy.  I’m posting a video so that you can see what the other activities are.  Have a pleasant evening! Fitnessgram®
